First Shoot

It started as a joke.

Then again after investing so much in a new hobby, you're supposed to take a shot at getting serious sooner or later. So here we have it, my very first shoot with two very lovely ladies. Ethel (left) and Whazel (right... duh.) set the stage for some very fine head shots.

We started by reviewing and attempting all 21 Sample Poses for Women from DPS.com. Of course we can't do all of them but we had fun trying things here and there. They're their own MUAs with Ethel taking lead in doing their eyes. I have to admit I'm not really a fan of women with make-up; I've always thought that each one had his or her good side in Photography regardless of features, but now I'm beginning to understand the value of make-up - it adds that certain "weight" to the picture (I don't mean physical weight like pounds or anything... I mean that extra "meat" to make the image more vibrant and substantial). But then we started playing around and saw a video that showcased 10 Asian Poses.

And of course, as a sign of gratitude to my models (and I guess to take their vengeance too), here's what they had me do:

Looking forward to more fun shots with these wonderful ladies. :-)

Spiderman

He's had three top-grossing movies over the last decade. A character admired by many not because of what he can do but because of who he is under the mask.

I've always admired spidey and how he shoots his web from one building to the next. He swings effortlessly -  one thing I'm sure I won't be able to do even if I did have the web-shooting capabilities.

This was an accidental shot, out of curiosity in understanding what the capabilities of my camera are. However, when I saw this, I knew I didn't need any more PPs*. I just needed to add my signature, specifics of the shot and post it as it is.

*PP - Post-Processing

"Spiderman"

Taken March 31, 2012 - Oakwood, Nostalg (Ortigas)
(the first signature I ever thought of adding, "N"...  like that of "L" from Deathnote for those who know. Also adding the specifics of the shot in case you'd like to know the setting.)

For how to take the shot, just send me a PM (then again a Pro from my team easily got how I took it the minute he saw it so I figured this was no biggie.)

"Freshstart"

That's what we called it back in UA&P - college freshmen and women ready to take on a new chapter in their lives. I think this blog started not because I wanted to, but because I have to.

I have several friends who are fond of photography. Some are really proud of their work, while others still feel the need to do better. Personally, I think photography is very subjective - that the only guiding principle that it needs to follow is that it must convey the message it intends to deliver. On that note, I appreciate Santi's humility despite the fact that hers is a collection that has the potential to become great. Facebook's format for photos simply does not do justice for what she had to offer the world.

After the conversation above, I decided it's time to start my own and grow which each of my peers. I'm going to use this blog to channel my works and see if I can do that "justice" I'm talking about to not just my photos but with that of my friends as well. I will not restrict to any particular genre. Heck, maybe on some occasions I may not even focus on photography at all.

The principle is there: create entries that convey the message they intend to deliver; but the topics I intend to be educational, informative, fun, and anything under the sun.

So let me start off my sharing the first shot of my very first DSLR:

Believe it or not, I took a shot with the lens hood on and I know most of you know the reason for this.

I hope that someday, when the blog already has a lot of followers (fingers crossed), someone will hit the comments section below and explain why this shot had to be the first  we all need to take.
